Past Continuous Tense – All Sentence Types

Structure/Formula:

Affirmative- Subject + Was/Were + V1 + Ing + Object
Negative- Subject + Was/Were + Not + V1 + Ing + Object
Interrogative- Was/Were + Subject + V1 + Ing + Object + ?
Interrogative-Negative- Was/Were + Subject + Not + V1 + Ing + Object + ?

Part 1: Affirmative Sentences 

(Subject + Was/Were + V1 + Ing + Object)

1. I was eating an apple yesterday.
   मैं कल सेब खा रहा था।
2. You were reading the newspaper in the morning.
   तुम सुबह अखबार पढ़ रहे थे।
3. We were going to school together.
   हम साथ में स्कूल जा रहे थे।
4. They were playing cricket in the evening.
   वे शाम को क्रिकेट खेल रहे थे।
5. He was writing a letter to his father.
   वह अपने पिता को पत्र लिख रहा था।
6. She was singing very sweetly.
   वह बहुत मीठा गा रही थी।
7. It was raining heavily in July.
   जुलाई में बहुत तेज बारिश हो रही थी।
8. Ram was reading his book carefully.
   राम अपनी किताब ध्यान से पढ़ रहा था।
9. Sita was cooking food for the family.
   सीता परिवार के लिए खाना बना रही थी।
10. The sun was rising in the east.
    सूरज पूर्व में उग रहा था।
11. The earth was moving round the sun.
    पृथ्वी सूर्य के चारों ओर घूम रही थी।
12. I was liking cold coffee.
    मुझे कोल्ड कॉफी पसंद आ रही थी।
13. You were looking very beautiful today.
    तुम आज बहुत सुंदर लग रहे थे।
14. We were trusting our friends.
    हम अपने दोस्तों पर भरोसा कर रहे थे।
15. They were living in a big house.
    वे एक बड़े घर में रह रहे थे।
16. He was driving very fast.
    वह बहुत तेज गाड़ी चला रहा था।
17. She was speaking English fluently.

Part 2: Negative Sentences 

(Subject + Was/Were + Not + V1 + Ing + Object)

1. I was not eating meat.
   मैं मांस नहीं खा रहा था।
2. You were not reading newspapers.
   तुम अखबार नहीं पढ़ रहे थे।
3. We were not going to the temple daily.
   हम रोज़ मंदिर नहीं जा रहे थे।
4. They were not playing video games.
   वे वीडियो गेम नहीं खेल रहे थे।
5. He was not writing clearly.
   वह स्पष्ट नहीं लिख रहा था।
6. She was not singing classical songs.
   वह शास्त्रीय गीत नहीं गा रही थी।

   सर्दियों में बारिश नहीं हो रही थी।
