YES / NO QUESTIONS IN PASSIVE VOICE — BASIC STRUCTURE

Formula:

Helping Verb (be form) + Object + (being/been) + V3 + (by Subject) + ?

In Hindi:

क्या + Object + (जा रहा था/जा चुका है/etc.) + V3 + (कर्ता द्वारा) + ?

The helping verb changes according to tense, number, and object.

1. SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE

Active: Does he help you?
Passive Formula: Is / Am / Are + Object + V3 + (by Subject)?

English Hindi
Is the letter written by him? क्या (यह) पत्र उसके द्वारा लिखा जाता है?
Are the rooms cleaned daily? क्या कमरे रोज़ साफ़ किए जाते हैं?
Is she invited to the party? क्या उसे पार्टी में बुलाया जाता है?
Are these products made in India? क्या ये उत्पाद भारत में बनाए जाते हैं?
Is English spoken here? क्या यहाँ अंग्रेज़ी बोली जाती है?
Am I required to sign this? क्या मुझे इस पर हस्ताक्षर करना आवश्यक है?

2. PRESENT CONTINUOUS TENSE

Active: Is she cooking food?
Passive Formula: Is / Am / Are + Object + being + V3 + (by Subject)?

English Hindi
Is the food being cooked by her? क्या (यह) खाना उसके द्वारा पकाया जा रहा है?
Are the walls being painted now? क्या दीवारें अभी रंगी जा रही हैं?
Is a new bridge being built here? क्या यहाँ एक नया पुल बनाया जा रहा है?
Are the children being taught? क्या बच्चों को पढ़ाया जा रहा है?
Is this song being sung by everyone? क्या यह गाना सबके द्वारा गाया जा रहा है?
Am I being watched? क्या मुझे देखा जा रहा है?

3. PRESENT PERFECT TENSE

Active: Has he completed the work?
Passive Formula: Has / Have + Object + been + V3 + (by Subject)?

English Hindi
Has the work been completed (by him)? क्या काम (उसके द्वारा) पूरा कर लिया गया है?
Have the letters been posted? क्या पत्र डाक में डाल दिए गए हैं?
Has the bill been paid? क्या बिल का भुगतान कर दिया गया है?
Have the tickets been booked? क्या टिकट बुक हो चुकी हैं?
Has the mistake been corrected? क्या गलती सुधार दी गई है?
Have they been informed? क्या उन्हें सूचित किया जा चुका है?

4. PRESENT PERFECT CONTINUOUS TENSE

Normally NO passive form because “been being” sounds awkward.
Instead, you can sometimes rephrase using It is being… or change the sentence to a simple perfect.
Avoid literal passive questions here.

5. SIMPLE PAST TENSE

Active: Did Mohan see you?
Passive Formula: Was / Were + Object + V3 + (by Subject)?

English Hindi
Were you seen by Mohan? क्या तुम मोहन द्वारा देखे गए?
Was the window broken? क्या खिड़की तोड़ी गई?
Were the letters delivered on time? क्या पत्र समय पर वितरित किए गए?
Was the speech appreciated? क्या भाषण की सराहना की गई?
Were the plants watered? क्या पौधों को पानी दिया गया?
Was the thief caught? क्या चोर पकड़ा गया?

6. PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE

Active: Was he writing a book?
Passive Formula: Was / Were + Object + being + V3 + (by Subject)?

English Hindi
Was a book being written by him? क्या उसके द्वारा एक किताब लिखी जा रही थी?
Were the roads being repaired? क्या सड़कों की मरम्मत की जा रही थी?
Was the car being washed then? क्या उस समय गाड़ी धोई जा रही थी?
Were the guests being served? क्या मेहमानों को खाना परोसा जा रहा था?
Was the song being played loudly? क्या गाना ज़ोर से बजाया जा रहा था?
Were the exams being conducted? क्या परीक्षाएँ आयोजित की जा रही थीं?

7. PAST PERFECT TENSE

Active: Had she started the car?
Passive Formula: Had + Object + been + V3 + (by Subject)?

English Hindi
Had the car been started (by her)? क्या गाड़ी (उसके द्वारा) स्टार्ट कर दी गई थी?
Had the money been deposited? क्या पैसा जमा कर दिया गया था?
Had the applications been submitted? क्या आवेदन जमा किए जा चुके थे?
Had the room been cleaned before he arrived? क्या उसके आने से पहले कमरा साफ़ किया जा चुका था?
Had the secret been revealed? क्या राज़ उजागर कर दिया गया था?
Had the parcel been opened? क्या पार्सल खोला जा चुका था?

8. PAST PERFECT CONTINUOUS TENSE

No passive voice — would require “had been being + V3”, which is unnatural. Avoid.

9. SIMPLE FUTURE TENSE

Active: Will Ravi paint the gate?
Passive Formula: Will / Shall + Object + be + V3 + (by Subject)?

English Hindi
Will the gate be painted by Ravi? क्या गेट रवि द्वारा रंगा जाएगा?
Will the result be declared tomorrow? क्या परिणाम कल घोषित किया जाएगा?
Shall we be informed in advance? क्या हमें पहले से सूचित किया जाएगा?
Will the meeting be held online? क्या बैठक ऑनलाइन आयोजित की जाएगी?
Will the snacks be served now? क्या अब नाश्ता परोसा जाएगा?
Will the books be delivered by Friday? क्या पुस्तकें शुक्रवार तक पहुँचा दी जाएँगी?

10. FUTURE CONTINUOUS TENSE

Active: Will she be singing a song?
Normally NO passive voice (would be “Will a song be being sung?” – impractical).
Use Simple Future passive instead if needed.

11. FUTURE PERFECT TENSE

Active: Will they have built the bridge by then?
Passive Formula: Will / Shall + Object + have been + V3 + (by Subject)?

English Hindi
Will the bridge have been built by then? क्या तब तक पुल बना लिया गया होगा?
Will the report have been submitted by Monday? क्या सोमवार तक रिपोर्ट जमा कर दी गई होगी?
Will the letter have been received by now? क्या अब तक पत्र प्राप्त कर लिया गया होगा?
Will the arrangements have been made? क्या व्यवस्थाएँ कर ली गई होंगी?
Will the issue have been resolved? क्या मामला सुलझा लिया गया होगा?
Shall we have been intimated? क्या हमें सूचित कर दिया गया होगा?

12. FUTURE PERFECT CONTINUOUS TENSE

No passive voice — “will have been being” is never used.
